The European Commission's proposal for new EU rules on methane refers to further reductions in methane emissions in the energy sector.
In its position sent to the European Commission, Business and Science referred primarily to the emission threshold in the context of the place to be measured and the choice of measurement infrastructure and the emission limits in the case of methane releases to the atmosphere as a result of routine and torch combustion or methane emissions occurring outside the Union. As the Regulation introduces the need for continuous monitoring of methane emissions in the area of closed wells, the BSP asked the EC to clarify this provision.
