We had the pleasure of participating in an event organised by IDEAS NCBR entitled ‘Science or fiction? How artificial intelligence is changing science'. The meeting brought together prominent experts such as Prof. Alexander Madry (OpenAI, Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Prof. Andrzej Dragan (University of Warsaw, National University of Singapore) and Prof. Piotr Sankowski (IDEAS NCBR, University of Warsaw), who discussed key issues related to the role of artificial intelligence in the development of science and technology during a conversation moderated by Krystyna Rappe-Niemirska (IDEAS NCBR).
The strategic importance of investment in AI for countries that want to play a significant role on the international stage was emphasised. Prof. Mądry highlighted the need for significant financial investment and the development of a national AI strategy, using France as an example. He also pointed out that AI is accelerating progress in other areas of technology, making it an essential part of the modern economy. As Prof. Mądry said, "any country that wants to count culturally, economically and militarily must have a strong AI."
As Business & Science Poland, we see the great importance of EU governments supporting the development of AI. We know that active involvement in this process will contribute to strengthening Poland's position on the international stage and will benefit both science and the economy.
